Volunteer at Fix-up night

Fix-up night runs every Thursday from 19:00 at Unit 4, Mill Yard. Tell us how you would like to help.

Members bring bikes that need attention, and volunteers help them do the fixing themselves. Bring your bike, we bring the tools. The tea is free.

Ways to help

  • Fixing bikes. Work alongside a member on gears, brakes and punctures, and explain what you are doing as you go.
  • Welcoming newcomers. Meet people at the door, find them a stand and a mechanic, and make sure nobody waits on their own.
  • Teaching a short session. Ten minutes on one skill, such as mending a puncture or checking chain wear, for whoever is in the room.
  • Setting up and packing away. Stands out, tools counted, and everything back on the wall at the end of the night.

Do I need to be a mechanic?

No. Some volunteers are new to spanners, most are confident with the basics and a few are experienced mechanics. Welcoming people and keeping the evening running matter as much as the fixing, and you pick up the rest by working next to someone who knows.

How to sign up

Write to the committee with your name, the kind of help you would like to give and the Thursdays that suit you. Add a phone number if you like: it is only used if a session is cancelled.

Volunteer at three Fix-up nights and you earn the Toolkeeper badge.
